2016 has been an amazing year for Ravensbourne - the institution, our students and staff have amassed an extensive list of achievements.
Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of the last year...
Ravensbourne awarded HEFCE Social Innovation Grant
Ravensbourne was awarded a prestigious grant by HEFCE to lead a pilot social innovation project, carried out in partnership with University of Greenwich and Design Institute, Loughborough University, London.
Broadcast technology alumnus wins BKSTS ChEFF Award
Ravensbourne graduate, Lee Hulse, won an award for the most innovative broadcast engineering project on an accredited course from the BKSTS Soho Chief Engineers Society (ChEFF).
Over 10-11 February we opened our doors to over 350 industry professionals, 50 speakers and over 35 exhibitors at our first ever virtual reality festival, VRUK – the biggest VR-specific event the UK has seen to date.
Ravensbourne and Ogilvy win 2016 National Award for Student Employability
Ravensbourne and international advertising agency, Ogilvy were acknowledged for the success of our partnership and awarded "Best Collaboration between a University and Employer" at the 2016 National Undergraduate Employability Awards.
Ravensbourne ranks among the best in animation
Ravensbourne was ranked as one of the top institutions in the UK for our BA (Hons) Animation degree programme by Animation Career Review.
Ravensbourne: A world leader in art & design education
Ravensbourne was for the second year running, ranked by QS World University Rankings as one of the top 50 schools in the world for art & design.
Ravensbourne shortlisted for THE Leadership and Management Awards 2016
Ravensbourne was shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs) for ‘Outstanding Student Services Team’.
BA (Hons) Architecture student wins AIA UK Student Design Award
BA (Hons) Architecture student Tonderai Maboreke was awarded the prestigious American Institute of Architects (AIA) UK Noel Hill Student Award.
Ravensbourne launch the first partnership materials library in the UK
Ravensbourne officially launched the first partnership materials library in the country making us the first institution in the UK to partner with Material ConneXion, a global materials consultancy.
Ravensbourne showcase space collection with European Space Agency
Ravensbourne was the only UK institution to have been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to work on ‘Couture in Orbit’, a project which challenged students to create outfits inspired by space flight.
The Degree Show goes out with a bang!
Ravensbourne’s 2016 Degree Show, the annual celebration that showcases the talents of our graduates, saw nearly 4,000 additional people come through Ravensbourne’s doors in comparison to 2015.
2016's show exhibited projects from over 15 creative disciplines and included events which hosted industry VIPs, press and established Ravensbourne alumni.

Ravensbourne help launch the new Tate Modern
Ravensbourne assisted with the launch of the new Tate Modern on Friday (17 June), after becoming the only higher education institution to be selected to VJ (project images to music) in the Turbine Hall.
Ravensbourne wins NADFAS Young People Award
Ravensbourne was awarded the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) Young People Award for the best event to creatively engage young people (8 - 18 years) at the Big Draw Awards 2016.
Ravensbourne wins a Stationers’ Company Innovation Excellence Award
Ravensbourne won a Stationers’ Company Innovation Excellence Award for a digital platform idea which aims to bring local communities together, linking networks to design and test innovation, new business models and services.
Ravensbourne scholarship awarded to young hostel resident
A scholarship for an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Creative and Digital Media at Ravensbourne was awarded to homeless young person, Sam Adesanya.
Ravensbourne graphic design student wins Creative Conscience Award
BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Medeea Lascar Bahneanu won a Creative Conscience Award for her campaign on the decline of bees.
Ravensbourne in top third of UK institutions for student employability
Ravensbourne was listed in the top third of all UK institutions for employability with 95.3% of our graduates employed or in further study within a year of graduating, a figure higher than the national average.
Ravensbourne identity rebrand wins Brand Impact Award
Ravensbourne’s identity rebrand won a Brand Impact Award in the education category for its consistent quality of concept, design and execution, led by NB Studio.
Students’ work from 22 countries represented at this year’s postgraduate degree show
Postgraduate students’ work from twenty two different countries was displayed at Ravensbourne to form Superhuman, this year’s postgraduate degree show.
Incubation company Haus Pictures nominated for Best Short Film at BFI Film Festival
Incubation company, Haus Pictures was nominated for Best Short Film at the 60th London BFI Film Festival. Haus Pictures is made up of Ravensbourne alumni from the broadcasting, tv production and editing courses.
Ravensbourne student receives Royal Television Society bursary
Timothy Payne, a student enrolled on BA (Hons) Editing and Post Production was selected to receive a Royal Television Society (RTS) bursary. Tim will receive £1000 per year to help with expenses and living costs.
Graduation 2016 sees 588 students graduating
This year, Graduation was for the first time held in the Old Royal Naval College, with 588 students graduating in a range of subjects including, architecture, design practice, fashion, media content and production.
MozFest 2016 sees nearly 2000 people through Ravensbourne’s doors
Ravensbourne once again hosted MozFest this October, the world’s leading festival for the open internet movement. This year’s festival proved the largest yet with over 500 sessions, 26 of those run by young people and 1800 attendees at the event.
Students exhibit fashion collections at Truman Brewery after fulfilling creative brief for VF Corporation, owner of Wrangler and Lee
Fashion students worked collaboratively to create innovative new denim brand proposals that reflected a brief set by VF Corporation.
Ravensbourne and DoubleMe launch the UK’s first HoloPortal™ - a new mixed reality experience
Ravensbourne and DoubleMe, a company which provides mixed reality holographic experiences launched HoloPortal™, the UK’s first facility which captures still or moving objects and generates 3D virtual doubles.
