Big Draw AwardsRavensbourne was awarded the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) Young People Award for the best event to creatively engage young people (8 - 18 years) at the Big Draw Awards 2016. The award, which was given to Ravensbourne along with a £1000 prize, saw Foundation Diploma students taking part in an internal progression project where they were asked to seek out a degree student, shadow them and create a 'portrait' of them. The aim was to promote internal progression and start the dialogue between Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) students.

Katharina Koall, Senior Lecturer at Ravensbourne commented: “We were looking for ways to aid internal progression, to give our FE students the possibility early on to find out more about Ravensbourne degree courses and to introduce them to ways of collaborative working and sharing ideas. We also wanted to facilitate an understanding of current drawing practice; and to provide students with professional experience as part of the curriculum to organise and understand the process of an open exhibition.”

Kate Mason, Director, The Big Draw commented: ‘The winners of The Big Draw Awards 2016 have once again demonstrated the power of the universal language of drawing to break down cultural barriers, to build connections across generations and to serve as a tool for learning, expression and invention.’

The Big Draw Awards celebrate the organisers of outstanding events that take place as part of the international Big Draw Festival each October, an annual celebration of drawing that takes place from 1-31 October and has encouraged over 3 million people to get drawing again.
