Matthew Pennycook, MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, visited Ravensbourne to discuss creative enterprise in the area.
During his two hour visit Mr Pennycook met with creative entrepreneurs of the future and was talked through the Degree Show , which takes place next month. The show, which displays work from students graduating this year, highlights the diverse exceptional work that Ravensbourne graduates produce over a range of creative disciplines such as sound design and architecture.
Mr Pennycook learnt about Ravensbourne’s unique learning environment which specifically encourages students to participate in professional practice and learn in an industry environment, equipping them ready for a professional creative working life.
Ravensbourne Director, Professor Linda Drew said: “We are delighted to welcome Matthew and are extremely excited to show off our unique institution.
“We are always looking for ways to collaborate with Greenwich businesses to see how our students’ work can benefit the local community. It’s great to hear Matthew’s thoughts and know that he supports us and the Ravensbourne vision going forward.”
Mr Pennycook also met with award winning creative business professionals who have taken advantage of Ravensbourne’s “incubation” area, a place where businesses can hire space to use the institution’s equipment and learning resources.
The provision of affordable arts and design studio space in London was also discussed and the subsequent impact on the sector.
Mr Pennycook said “It was great to have the opportunity to see the range of innovative specialist work undertaken by the students at Ravensbourne. I look forward to working with the Ravensbourne in the years ahead to promote collaboration with local business and institutions, and to ensure that they play a central role in the life of our community.”
