Designer Francis Bitonti hosts New Skin studio workshops in London with Ravensbourne

Renowned fashion designer Francis Bitonti is to host his first UK-based workshop; New Skins London: Deus ex Machina, in July 2014. It will be held at Ravensbourne and applications are now open.

This unique opportunity, encompassing a 10 day workshop is open to anyone, though limited to 20 places, and will focus on learning the tools and theory of computational design processes in relation to fashion design. Students will collaborate with Francis Bitonti Studio on the production of a 3D printed garment in a working design studio environment.

The New Skins Workshop Series launched in Brooklyn, New York in Summer 2013. After its run at Ravensbourne this July it will then go on to San Francisco, US, in August 2014.

Francis Bitonti explains, “The workshop is about finding the new aesthetic formal language of this new manufacturing paradigm. It’s not just about replicating a form from the computer, though that is part of it—it’s about cultivating new material behaviors.”

Francis Bitonti is an architect turned fashion designer with worldwide recognition, in particular he is known for his innovative work in the 3D design and print field, including creating the Dita Von Teese 3D printed dress which garnered much media attention when it was debuted in New York City in 2013. Blurring the lines between fashion and technology, Bitonti's trademark process merges cutting edge digital design and manufacturing technologies, aimed to transform mass production.
