The Ravensbourne Fencing Society win Bronze

The Ravensbourne Fencing Society won a Bronze Medal at the International X-SYSTRA Fencing Challenge in Paris.

The annual competition takes place at the Saclay Ecole Polytechnique and attracts over 300 students from all over the world.

Twelve members (see picture below right) of The Ravensbourne Fencing Society team, representing the many creative disciplines available at Ravensbourne, took part. Kirk Slankard (see left picture, centre), Miiot Pireva (see left picture, right) and Morgan Vondee (see left picture, left) formed the winning trio, Ravensbourne Ravens.

Bronze medal

Special congratulations to Kirk Slankard who has now been formally selected for Team GB's Fencing Squad and will be taking part in the World Championships in Moscow on 20 March, as a pre-cursor to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro 2016.

Kirk, who only started fencing at the age of 14, can also take pride in being one of six fencers from around the world chosen for the Fencing World Cup. Each season only the best national fencers are selected. "To be considered to be in the top six in Britain is an honour and to have everyone rooting for me fills me with pride," says Kirk.

We'll be sure to keep you informed on The Ravensbourne Fencing Society progress as they have a busy year ahead with competitions in Sussex (March), Germany (May), London (June) and Liverpool (July).
