Penrose Festival Roundup
Penrose Festival took place last week at Ravensbourne and was a great success. Our second year Design students were given a task to produce items from recyclable materials that would cost under a pound; they were extremely creative in their pursuits and created a variety of exciting, innovative and unique items, which were also branded and sold on their stalls.
The event was recognized by The Global Entrepreneurship Team who have awarded the students with a ‘Global Entrepreneurship High Impact award’. This has been a great achievement for all involved with Penrose Festival 2013. The criteria for a high impact award was for events which provide role models, offer practical support, develop enterprise capabilities and reference the wider GEW campaign, evaluating success.
“We’d like to congratulate you on this achievement and thank you for playing such an important role in the success of Global Entrepreneurship Week. The success of the entire campaign rests on the commitment of organisations such as yourself, so we hope you enjoyed being part of the 2013 campaign”.
The GEW team
As well as being recognized by GEW, students have also been selected for the Handmade Christmas event being held at the 02 arena in December. The students were selected based on criteria such as how well the items would fit in with the look and feel of Handmade Christmas and whether it would evoke an emotion of Christmas for a buyer.
Some students were also selected for The Greenwich Museum’s pop-up shopping event being held at their heritage center and craft was an important element for the criteria.
The items in particular, which caught attention, were;
Jungle Plaques, for having a high quality product with a strong story behind it that brought back childhood memories for most people.
Paper fineries for creating high quality design jewellery mostly made mostly of fragile materials such as newspaper.
Kitsch Co. for pushing the set brief to its boundaries by delivering a wide variety of different products backed up with a strong brand and marketing strategy.
Penrose was an event infused with creativity and passion. We would like to thank all those who participated in the Festival and for making it a roaring success. The talent and enthusiasm have created a lovely atmosphere just in time for Christmas.
