Ravensbourne celebrates student enterprise at Penrose Festival
student enterprise at Penrose Festival
Ravensbourne hosted Penrose Festival at the end of 2012. Over 400 enterprising students had the chance to sell their innovative products and exhibit their businesses at an open-house Christmas-style market.
Penrose Festival, which took place between 20 – 21 November 2012 at Ravensbourne’s campus on the Greenwich Digital Peninsula, celebrated creative design, production and technology through the sale and display of students’ work.
Designers for the future
The general public was invited to browse stalls and buy all manner of goods from high-end fashion pieces, music synthesisers and jewellery to smaller items such as soft children’s toys, premium leather phone cases and upcycled games pieces.
Ravensbourne students also had the opportunity to show-off their start-up companies to local business owners and industry professionals.
Keeping good company
New companies included iMade Media, a digital filmmaking and music production studio that prides itself on its professional approach, to a client-based agency, I Am The Gift Productions, that specialises in forging connections between skilled undergraduates and the media industry.
Learn new digital skills
Penrose Festival also treated visitors to free taster courses in a whole host of digital applications. The Introduction to All Things Digital courses offered a beginner’s level overview of software applications to help aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners improve their company or practice.
By the close of the Festival, attendees would have been able to set up a website in Wordpress, protect their work online, make their video go viral, develop their online brand, create an online store with Etsy and effectively use flash photography.
