Motion graphics summer course
Date: 1-2 July
Age group: 16-18
Motion graphics is an exciting and rapidly expanding discipline that spans the world of film, TV, and animation. Using a wide range of techniques including graphic design, animation, video, typography and illustration, motion designers are employed to create title sequences, promotional content, branding, information design, adverts and much more.
This short summer course will introduce you to the world of motion graphics and includes activities from experimenting with software, idea generation, creating storyboards to developing your own portfolio.
Games design summer course
Date: 2-4 July
Age group: 15-18
This summer school will give you the chance to explore games and games development at one of London's best design universities.
In this 3-day course, we'll look at the games industry, the biggest trends and controversies in the industry and review the current state of the art gaming technologies.
The course will concentrate on game design fundamentals and give you the opportunity to create portfolio pieces to take to interview including concept, games design documentation, and level designs as well as narrative pieces.
We'll create paper prototypes of games and spend some time getting to grips with Unity. We'll play games, boards games, video games and VR/AR games and learn how to analyse them critically to produce reviews and play-testing reports.
Animation summer course
Date: 8-9 July
Age group: 16-18
Animation can be seen everywhere today in movies, video games, advertisements and many more. It also happens that London is one of the biggest hubs for animation and games in the whole world.
The aim of our workshop is to shed some light on what goes on in a typical animation studio and how to get started making your own creations. The workshops will be practical using Maya, the very same software used by famous studios such as Disney, Pixar, and Marvel.
Our goal is to get you started with the basics and by the end of our workshops you will have the makings of your first portfolio which you could build on for your future in animation/games.
User Experience (UX)and User Interface(UI): Design your own app summer course
Date:: 8-11 July
Age group: 14-18
This UX/UI design summer school introduces you to the new and exciting creative fields of user experience and user interface design.
On this 4-day course, you will learn how to research, design, prototype and test an app you create using a whole range of tools and techniques.
At the end of the week, you can take away your app prototype and all the parts of this process, which will be useful in your portfolio.
The design skills and understanding you have gained over the course will take you one step closer to a future in the creative industries.
Portfolio preparation for art and design summer course
Date: 9-12 July
Age group: 16+
Would you like some help with what to include in your portfolio application for foundation and undergraduate art and design courses? If so, this course is for you.
We will help you prepare your portfolio and get ready for interviews. You will produce work to include in your portfolio, and you'll get expert advice on what to include, layout and the presentation of your work.
A programme of activities will be set covering different tasks, for example, life drawing and technical drawing, using different types of media and method, developing an idea into a final concept and photographing your work.
Digital photography summer course
Date:: 15-17 July
Age group: 14-18
The course will explore your relationship to the environment around you. It could be people, buildings, landscapes, or objects.
The aim of the course is to create self-awareness and consciousness to the things around you, and explore opportunities to study photography in a further and higher education setting.
Each day students must take pictures for their project. It can be done with a smartphone, and we will also provide digital SLR cameras.
Previous knowledge of photography is not important for this course, beginners are welcome, as are more experienced photographers.
Illustration summer course
Date:: 17-18 July
Animation, advertising, fashion, and web, apps and games design - If you study Illustration at university you might go on to be any number of things in these areas.
This two-day summer school will give you the opportunity to use the power of illustration to communicate a message. It will give you a taste of what it's like to study illustration at university, and will focus on visual communication through making rather than drawing.
Teachers CPD: Anarchy in the classroom
Date:: 27 June
Teachers are invited to join designer and visual artist Soofiya for this session exploring ideas around gender and identity within the art school and pedagogy.
This session will be packed with practical activities and ideas aiming to ignite dissent and anarchy to our concepts of gender and identity. And, includes a free lunch.
