Social media week

Social Media Week is a global conference, now in it’s fifth year and attended by approximately 10,000 people. It is taking place in 18 cities around the world and explores the social, cultural and economic impact of social media.

This day-long 'Africa: Open & Connected' event brings together Africa’s leading minds and will explore how Africans are incorporating social media in their unique social, political, economic and creative landscapes.

The three featured panels are:

  1. 1 Billion Strong ... A Continent on The Rise
  2. Open Access: Governance & Social Media in Africa
  3. E!Africa... How Social Media Is Driving Entertainment in Africa

The event will culminate in a special concert (SMW Lagos LIVE!) presented by Nigeria’s premiere radio station Beat 99.9FM and streamed live at Ravensbourne, which boasts the latest in high-performance technology.

"At Ravensbourne we see social media as a very exciting space, as a level playing field where our highly creative student population can develop, mix and share ideas with a global array of companies. We are immensely proud that Social Media Week Lagos selected Ravensbourne as the venue to showcase Nigerian innovation, the event will give our students and the UK tech community a unique insider view into one of the world's fastest growing technology hubs."

Will Pearson, Director of Technology, Ravensbourne

"We look forward to representing Africa in London and invite all Africans who make London their home to come out and support this event. With Ravensbourne as our hosts, its focus on communications and the digital landscape, we aim to create the perfect setting to engage Africa, which is increasingly social, digital and mobile."
