Doctor Who (1984)

Concept and creative process

A change of lead actor required a redesign of the titles by Bernard Lodge which had achieved an iconic status and were hard to follow, while maintaining the themes of Time and Space and introducing the new face to the viewers. I wanted to suggest that here was Doctor Who, an alien who came from somewhere out there among the stars. At the same time I wanted to introduce the 'Space' element and not just 'Time'. So I combined the two and built the head of 'The Doctor' out of stars.

Cameraman - Terry Handley.
