"I only have good memories when I look back at my time at Ravensbourne."
Course Studied: BA (Hons) Fashion Accessory Design
Year of Graduation: 2017
Current Role: Design Assistant at Dune London
Before I applied to this course I knew I wanted to do footwear, but I was not sure whether it was the right decision to close the door to other accessory areas. Choosing to study Fashion Accessory Design gave me not only the opportunity to explore all kinds of accessories, but also to specialise into the area I wanted. This is something that has given me a big advantage now that I have finished my degree.
All modules were industry-focused and the collaborations between courses made the environment feel very realistic, which prepared us and taught us to be professional.
Throughout the three years we had a number of live briefs and we participated in a few competitions. A highlight was a live brief with the European Space Agency and the Science Museum, where a selected number of fashion students collaborated and created a clothing and accessories collection inspired by space. I had the honour to work with other talented students and I was selected to design and make all the shoes for the looks. The collection was later showcased on a catwalk in the Science Museum.
Currently I am a Design Assistant at Dune London, where I design both Footwear and Accessories and I conduct research for the design team.
Looking back, I am really happy I chose this course. This degree marks the beginning of my career and has prepared me and helped me achieve everything I have so far.
My advice to prospective students would be work hard and use all available learning resources to enhance your skills, as well as Ravensbourne's amazing facilities. The possibilities of what you can do are limitless.
