"My only regret is that I completed my studies before their move to the fantastic new campus, the new location is surrounded by inspiration, whilst the building is a model of collaborative learning."
Year of Graduation: 2003
What appealed to you about Ravensbourne and your chosen degree course?
The course’s strong reputation within the interior design sector was a factor when choosing my course. It ensured that each year was full with dedicated, design hungry students, all with a passion to learn.
How has your degree from Ravensbourne helped you achieve your professional goals?
Ravensbourne gave us the opportunity to interact with multiple disciplines whilst on the course. I initially dabbled in retail design and loved the collaboration with graphics and branding designers. When I left Ravensbourne I was striving to find a company where I could express my passion for interior design whilst retaining an architectural context and attention to detail. The drive and passion of the tutors was key to my development at Ravensbourne and helped me to achieve my goals.
Are you in employment and, if so as what?
I am currently an Associate Director at KSS an architecture, interior design and graphics practice, who specialise in the design of major sports venues and training facilities, hospitality, educational projects and residential developments,The strength of design that results from multi-disciplinary projects is what drove me to KSS.
My own determination led me to heading up the interior design department within our 100 strong, award winning, architecture and design practice. My completed highlights are the AMEX stadium, the flagship Tottenham Hotspurs training centre and most recently completed new main stand for Liverpool Football Club. Current projects include hospitality at Wembley, Twickenham, The AELTC – Wimbledon.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
My advice would be work hard in every year, build on your experiences. Be inspired and be constantly seeking new visual reference. Don't just think about form, we live in colour and texture, use it to bring your schemes alive and enhance the users' experience and emotions.
