Course: BA (Hons) Fashion Buying and Brand Management

Year of Graduation: 2018

Ravensbourne stood out to me because of its open plan modern environment and its facilities of technology available to students.  I took an interest in the course because it proposed both aspects of Fashion Buying and Brand Management, which I felt would open up more opportunities once graduating.

The tutors really made my experience at Ravensbourne; their constant support, encouragement and networks helped me to push myself.  We were really lucky to have many industry experts visit for talks and workshops. During my studies I won an award for a collaboration project for VF Corporation in which our course worked with fashion students.  I was also short-listed at Graduate Fashion Week for the New Fashion Media award.

We visited Mas Holdings in Sri Lanka, which  was such a memorable cultural and learning experience. It was a unique opportunity for us to gain first-hand experience of large-scale manufacturing carried out sustainably. I think it’s important to be educated around sustainable practices within your professional industry, and on this course, it is always something that is well considered.

The versatility of this course allowed me to develop my areas of interest within the fashion sphere. Our final year gave us the freedom to align our final project to our professional goals. Having reputable industry tools such as EDITED was really valuable to me, without access to this I wouldn’t have had the knowledge of the platform that helped me to secure my current role.

After graduating, I stepped into my current role as a Retail Data Coordinator at EDITED, a data platform that uses AI to help drive retail decisions. I work within the Product and Engineering department, where my day to day role involves maintaining the data quality of our growing database of over 2 billion product SKUs. This can include anything from investigating and resolving data queries to working on projects to build our data coverage. I’m very fortunate that my role allows me to work closely with people across the company from engineers, data scientists to customer success teams. I’m always learning something new from the talented people at EDITED!

Collaborate as much as you can. I learnt a lot during my time at university through collaborative projects. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek advice - your time at Ravensbourne will go quickly, so make the most of it.
