Course Studied: Interior Design and Environment Architecture
Year of Graduation: 2006
Ravensbourne gave me the ability to be creative and push the boundaries. The course focused heavily on opening up our creativity. You learn the nuts and bolts when you get out into the big wide world but if you can’t imagine things, then you don’t have a solid base. There was a unique approach to interior design studies that allowed us to be individuals and explore our own creativity over a series of varied projects. The mixture of detail and conceptual studies provides the well-rounded skills needed for commercial interior design.
I’m confident Ravensbourne is more personal than other universities and colleges. The course itself was personal in nature and there was a connection between those of us in the group as well as a real connection to industry.
Ravensbourne was the foundation for everything that has been accomplished in my career to date. I am currently the Design Director for ThirdWay Interiors. TWI is a design and build company that specialises in design-led commercial office interiors for tenants, and CAT A developments for commercial landlords. I oversee and lead a design team of 15 designers, working on circa 200 projects a year with a turnover of around £50 million, as well as working on key projects of varying sizes, from 2,000 sq ft to 150,000 sq. ft.
Give your everything and open your mind. Your experience at Ravensbourne will be the bedrock of your career and your industry networks. The highlights of my time there included my colleagues and tutors, being featured in the Biennale and being published in the Frame book, as well as the industry connections and work experience I gained.
