What appealed to you about Ravensbourne and your chosen degree course?
Having also undertaken a Foundation Diploma at Ravensbourne, I had already been impressed by the industry standard facilities and equipment Ravensbourne provided. It was a natural choice to progress onto to the Digital Film Production degree course. I was pleased that the course offered the choice of exploring the many different aspects of filmmaking, and had already heard great things about the level of teaching.
How has your degree from Ravensbourne helped you achieve your professional goals?
The benefits I gained from studying many different avenues of filmmaking on the Digital Film Production degree allowed me to change my career path. I originally wanted to go into Production Design, but found a love of Visual Effects and Post Production whilst working as a Runner. The knowledge obtained from studying an Editorial and Post Production unit during the course was invaluable in my progression through to my role as a VFX Coordinator.
Tell us about any highlights from your time at Ravensbourne.
My personal highlight from Ravensbourne was participating in the yearly 48 Hour Film Festivals. They were always incredibly fun and encouraged you to learn in a high pressure, collaborative environment- something that I do on a daily basis now!
Tell us a little about your current employment.
I'm currently employed as a VFX Coordinator at the Oscar Winning Visual Effects House Double Negative. I've recently finished working on 'Jason Bourne' and am starting work on 'Life'- a film in which an international space crew discovers life on Mars, starring Ryan Reynolds- from the writers of Deadpool.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
- Make use of the brilliant facilities and seminars Ravensbourne has to offer.
- Immerse yourself in outer curricular projects.
- Don't panic! Just because you don't quite know what you want to do yet doesn't mean you won't ever know.
- Take the time to explore options and do your research.
