Course Studied: MA in Environment Design
Year of Graduation: 2015
I wanted to be part of an institution that is doing its best to grow and achieve success. Ravensbourne has the resources, the possibilities, the location but it also has a pretty innovative approach to academia and industry. This new model was really attractive - I had a choice between here and another university but theirs was a classic model. There wasn’t anything new for me there, just more exams and more structural problems to solve.
Ravensbourne was offering me the opportunity to feel alive, to be creative. When you study, you have many dreams and ideas but when you go into industry the routine of work often makes you lose that. But Ravensbourne’s multidisciplinary approach allowed me to be part of a unique experience, where architects could collaborate with fashion designers and product designers, with creativity always at the centre.
The spirit of the community is really important. This is one of the most diverse places I’ve been in my life. You learn with people from many different countries and cultures, and the building itself encourages collaboration. Every day you get to participate in new experiences and it was completely different from my time studying my first Master’s in my native Spain.
My career is extremely varied. I occasionally collaborate as a consultant for RT News and TVE in Spain, covering topics related to my profession as well as issues associated with Brexit. I also own an architecture company, IDEA architecture office, which is established in the Ravensbourne Incubation. I work with an amazing team on some great projects: recently, we were shortlisted to build a playschool in Amsterdam. If that wasn’t already enough, I am a sessional lecturer in Contextual Studies and Further Education, I run the postgraduate mentoring scheme and I have just started research work!
An experience at Ravensbourne prepares you for real life - be open and persevere. Many new students will be coming from different countries and cultures, like me. Be ready to absorb everything and be patient. It is a process, go step by step.
