Scholarships for Tier 4 (non EU/EEA) students 2018/19

Ravensbourne have a number of scholarships and awards available for our Tier 4 International students.

Please note that the international scholarships are only open to students who require a Tier 4 (General) student visa in order to study in the UK. This is subject to change.

Due to restricted funding and a large number of eligible students, our finance support is limited. It is designed to assist towards the costs of travel and/or course equipment.

We therefore, strongly advise all prospective students to consider all the costs of study including accommodation, travel, equipment and food whilst undertaking their course and to have alternative means of funding such as part time work and/or savings.

Undergraduate Tier 4 (non EU/EEA) International Scholarship 2018/19 - application deadline extended

This scholarship encourages applications from Tier 4 international undergraduate applicants who demonstrate potential or proven ability to make an exceptional contribution to study at Ravensbourne.

We have four scholarships worth £1000 each available[1].

The Scholarship is paid in the first year of the course only.

Eligibility

Tier 4 international first year applicants holding a conditional offer on a full time undergraduate course at Ravensbourne.

Priority will be given to students with offers on the following undergraduate courses:

  • Games Design BA (Hons)
  • Illustration for Communication BA (Hons)
  • User-experience and User Interface (UX/UI) Design BA (Hons)
  • Urban Landscape Architecture BA (Hons)

Assessment Criteria

We invite applications from students with an outstanding portfolio, academic merit and dedication for high quality study in their chosen discipline area. We look for creativity, production quality, originality and the articulation of how this scholarship will contribute to the applicant’s long-term career aims.

How to apply

Students should download and complete an application form, demonstrating how this scholarship will positively contribute to their postgraduate progression.

All applications must contain links to an online portfolio or CD-ROM / DVD, submitted separately.

Candidates should also submit a 2 minute video about themselves, their academic history and why they would be the right choice for the scholarship. Make your story short but powerful and an impactful demonstration of your creative talents.

Application Deadline: 23:59 UK time on Sunday 1 July 2018. No applications will be considered after this date.

Applications will be assessed by a selection panel. The panel will consider your scholarship application together with your application for admission. All applicants will be informed of the outcome by email by 15 July 2018.

The Professor Robin Baker Scholarship 2018/19 - application deadline extended

The Professor Robin Baker scholarship is a merit-based award which is open to applicants to Ravensbourne’s postgraduate programmes.

Professor Robin Baker was director of Ravensbourne from 1994 to 2015. In that time, he developed Ravensbourne’s pioneering strategic emphasis on the creative use of digital technology. Professor Baker‘s vision led to our relocation to our current building and transformation of Ravensbourne into the cutting edge and innovative specialist higher education institution we are today.

The purpose of the Professor Robin Baker scholarship is to:

  • Encourage national and international applicants for Ravensbourne’s postgraduate courses with the greatest academic potential and creative talent.
  • Encourage excellent postgraduate work which demonstrates innovation and creativity in the use of technology.
  • To provide access to Ravensbourne’s innovative postgraduate courses to those who might otherwise find it financially challenging. 

Normally, Ravensbourne will award either one full fee scholarship or two part-time/half full time fee scholarships annually, depending on the range and calibre of applicants.

Eligibility

To be considered for the scholarship an applicant must be:

  • a Home, EU or EEA applicant who has applied for a place and been accepted on a full-time or part-time postgraduate course at Ravensbourne between the 1 October and 1 June immediately prior to entry.

Or

  • a Tier 4 (no EU/EEA) international applicant who has applied for a place and been accepted on a full-time postgraduate course at Ravensbourne between the 1 October and 1 June immediately prior to entry.

Applicants should have confirmed acceptance of their place on the course in advance of applying for the scholarship or provide clear evidence of their intent to do so.

How to apply

Eligible candidates seeking consideration for the scholarship must submit an application via our Dropbox account at http://bit.ly/2AeH2wt by Friday 15 June 2018.

The application should take the form of a personal statement of no more than 300 words together with any additional evidence they may wish to supply (e.g. CVs, images, videos, hyperlinks, examples of creative work or academic references).

This statement should supplement rather than replicate the personal statement submitted during the application process for the course.

It should set out:

  • Further detail about the nature of the anticipated research during the course and its creativity, originality and innovativeness in terms of the application of technology.
  • Further detail about how the applicant will benefit from the course and the additional support the applicant would gain from scholarship.
  • Any additional information that the applicant believes would assist the selection panel in evaluating their application.

Selection

Applications for the scholarship will be evaluated and ranked by a selection panel consisting of:

  • Head of Student Services (Chair)
  • Two members of the postgraduate academic staff
  • Head of International Development

Ranking will be on the basis of the evidence provided by the applicants’:

  • Previous and current academic or professional performance and future potential.
  • Creativity and innovation in the application of technology.
  • Benefit to be derived from the course and Scholarship.

Award of scholarship

The successful applicant will be informed on 29 June 2018.

Postgraduate Tier 4 (Non EU/EEA) International Scholarship 2018/19 - application deadline extended

This scholarship is aimed at promoting postgraduate studies to Tier 4 (non EU/EEA international postgraduate applicants) with the ability to make an exceptional contribution at Masters level.

There are three scholarships available worth up to £1,500 each.[1]

Eligibility

Students who:

  • require a Tier 4 student visa to study in the United Kingdom
  • hold a conditional offer on a full time postgraduate course at Ravensbourne.

Nuno Leite Memorial Award 2017/18

The Nuno Leite Memorial Award is intended for Ravensbourne Level 3 Undergraduate Sound Design & Music & Sound Production Students. It will be awarded either:

  • for an outstanding piece of work that demonstrates great talent or
  • To a student that shows exceptional commitment, talent and passion throughout their studies on the Sound Design/Music & Sound Production degree.

This award is given in the form of course-related equipment.

Eligibility

Level 3 Undergraduate students studying Sound Design/Music & Sound Production.

How to apply

Course Tutors will nominate students for this award based on merit and/or academic potential.

The Ravensbourne Laptop Scheme 2018/19

How much is the bursary?

For the academic year 2018/19, a £300 bursary is available for undergraduate students who purchase a computer suitable for their course.  Students may purchase their computer through their normal supplier or through our partner, FreedomTech, who will offer the opportunity of paying in instalments.

Students can only make ONE claim for this bursary during their time as an Undergraduate student at Ravensbourne. Currently, students can claim this award during any point of their 3 year course. However, this could change in future years.

Eligibility

  • All First Year Undergraduate Students who have a laptop that meets the minimum specification requirements for their course.

Students who wish to make a claim for this bursary, must make their claim between enrolment and before the end of the taught elements of their course, prior to formal graduation.  

The £300 bursary amount applies only for the academic year of 2018/19. Please be advised, in subsequent years this scheme may change. 

Students are entitled to an additional £200, payable in April 2019, if they

  • are a new entrant to an undergraduate course commencing September 2018
  • have a household income of £25,000 or under, as disclosed to Student Finance England.
  • have claimed the £300 laptop bursary
  • are a Home student paying the full tuition fee.

How to apply

Regardless of whether students choose to order through FreedomTech or purchase from a different provider, they will need to claim their £300 bursary payment by completing the on line application form (Link will go live in September 2018) following enrolment at Ravensbourne.

Eligible students will be automatically assessed for the additional £200 payment and will be paid at the end April 2019.

The indicative models available, which vary depending on your course, are shown on our Intranet page. These are correct at time of publication, but are subject to change.

Student Services Support Award 2018/19

Ravensbourne is committed to providing assistance for their students in financial hardship. The Student Services Support Award is given to students who face an unexpected crisis that may jeopardise their ability to continue with study.

This bursary is usually awarded as a payment in kind towards the costs of food, travel or course equipment. Depending on circumstances, a cash payment may be given.

Eligibility

  • All undergraduate students

How to apply

Students will need to complete the on line application form and provide copies of the following evidence to support your application:

  • Your Student Finance Statement 
  • Your tenancy agreement (if applicable)
  • Bank statements for past 3 months
  • A completed Student Budget Planner
  • Evidence of any benefits received

Depending on circumstances, students may be required to meet with the Finance Support Coordinator to discuss additional forms of support and money management.

The application process will open following enrolment in September 2018.

The International Student Mobility Scheme

The International Student Mobility Scheme was launched in 2015 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Ravensbourne’s relocation to the Greenwich Peninsula.

To commemorate the anniversary, we created financial awards for students applying to our Social Innovation and Broadcasting courses, with a total of one scholarship available for each of the following:

  • Broadcast Computing
  • Broadcast Systems Technology
  • Outside Broadcast Technology


These specific courses were chosen to acknowledge the increasing wealth of digital content being generated in developing countries around the world - new technology which is driving social change, accelerating development and creating wealth in emerging economies. Ravensbourne recognises this and wants to give these innovators the opportunity to take their skills to the next level.

Furthermore, 2015 was a year of great achievements for our Innovation and Broadcast alumni, so what better way to give back.

This scheme is only available to nationals of the following countries: Ghana, India, Bangladesh, Brazil, Kenya, Mexico, Mauritius, Nepal, Colombia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Philippines, Tanzania, Thailand and Vietnam, United States of America.
