This course could be your next move if you have just completed your GCSEs or AS Levels and are looking to focus on digital media and design.

This course provides you with an immersive design and media experience, allowing you to experiment with different design processes and develop your ideas. You will study in a university environment, offering you specialist facilities and a team of teaching professionals who work in the creative industries.

You will begin the course with an introductory period where you will learn a range of manual and digital practical skills, moving on to a period of experimentation into a range of 2D, 3D and time-based subjects and finally finishing with a final major project within a specialist subject of your choice. Throughout the course you will gain the knowledge, skills and confidence required for working independently in preparation for progression into Foundation and HE.

On successful completion of this course, you can then progress onto one of our Foundation Diplomas. This will be subject to an application process.

Entry requirements

Students for the pre-foundation diploma are normally expected to possess: 

  • 5 GCSEs, grade C or above, including English, Maths and a Creative/ Media subject

What your course will look like

Stage 1

This contains compulsory units and covers drawing, visual language skills, primary and secondary research skills, manual and digital techniques and processes and presentation skills.

Stage 2

This introduces students to contextual studies and to specialist areas within digital media and design including: fashion design and promotion, 3D design, graphic design, photography, animation, broadcasting and film disciplines.

Stage 3

This is the last stage of the course when students will select from one of the above specialist subject areas to work on for a Final Major Project.


On successful completion, you can progress onto one of our Foundation Diplomas. This will be subject to an application process .
