Ravensbourne has won a Stationers’ Company Innovation Excellence Award for a digital platform idea which aims to bring local communities together, linking networks to design and test innovation, new business models and services.
Nominated by Citizens UK, which encourages communities to act together, the platform called “No Ordinary Idea” has been developed as part of Ravensbourne's postgraduate department to challenge both Ravensbourne and community organisations to rethink and reshape the way they engage with each other, providing solutions to local issues.
Paul Sternberg, Associate Dean and Head of Design Innovation at Ravensbourne said: “We are delighted to be given this prestigious award.
“The purpose of this model is to generate significant social capital, improve lives, and promote social purpose. This model tests ways a higher education institution can act as a catalyst for social innovation and new socially-focused services and business models, developing new exciting ways to learn within the local community.”
The concept has already prompted a series of short projects with Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group, Digital Greenwich, Citizens UK and two local secondary schools. One of the projects involves working with stakeholders in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, to test a range of methodologies and co-create new approaches to preventative health, designing solutions which support positive mental health amongst young people.
The Master of the Stationer’s Company, Helen Esmonde praised the innovative skills of all companies that entered the awards.
