In a collaboration with Sundance Film Festival, Ravensbourne students had the opportunity to meet and talk with Academy Award and four time BAFTA winning Director Asif Kapadia about his documentary ‘Amy’ which tells the story of Amy Winehouse and her rise to fame.
Asif is known for other international box office successes such as ‘The Warrior’, ‘Senna’ and ‘Amy’.
The students also got to chat with Producer James Gay-Rees, known for the production on Senna and Amy, and Nick Shymansky Amy Winehouse's former manager and friend who played an integral role in the film.
The event, a part of Sundance Film Festival’sFilm Forward programme, showcased three days of Sundance films, masterclasses, discussions and symposia with film directors at Ravensbourne which came about after discussions with Senior Lecturer Garth Twa, BA (Hons) Digital Film Production.
Garth said: ‘We are always keen to provide our students with opportunities to collaborate with our industry partners. It was a wonderful programme and it was an honour to be involved.’
Angela Iconis, BA (Hons) Digital Film student said: ‘It was great to collaborate with Sundance Film Festival. It was amazing to meet such successful industry professionals, it gave us the chance to pick their brains and it showed me what hard work, passion and dedication could achieve.’
Alice Groves, BA (Hons) Digital Film student said: ‘I loved going to the Sundance Film Festival, so it was really exciting to have Film Forward bring a piece of Sundance to Ravensbourne’.
‘Having the chance to hear and get advice from such successful film producers and directors is invaluable and is definitely something I will take with me as I begin my career.’
