Ravensbourne students have been helping local businesses update their websites through a project jointly run with South East Enterprise.
South East Enterprise (SEE) provide one-to-one business support and training, enabling clients to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to build a sustainable business.
Selected students design or update SEE clients’ websites through the e-business programme. These ongoing paid projects are funded by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and involve students from Ravensbourne as well as the University of Greenwich.
Three Ravensbourne students are currently assisting with this initiative. A Level 2 Graphic Design student, Indre Zutautaite, has recently completed a website for pet boutique, The Doghouse. Harry Difolco and Simeron Taak, both studying Web Media Production, have been working with businesses ranging from holiday agencies to gas suppliers and solicitors.
Ravensbourne Industry Liaison, Jo Eaton said; “The project has helped to integrate Ravensbourne into the local business community, whilst also providing paid design work for our students.”
Student recruitment for this initiative is in the first instance carried out internally, SEE then put the selected student in touch with one of the businesses in need of website development or re-development. Only companies with limited financial resources are eligible for this programme. Appointed students are offered business support and a place to work or meet the client at the SEE offices (The Royal Arsenal Gatehouse in Woolwich).
The programme benefits all parties involved, as summarised by Tony Goldstein, SEE Managing Director; “When launching the e-business initiative we wanted to work meaningfully with both Ravensbourne and the University of Greenwich. We wanted the digital and creative and of course we wanted everybody to feel valued. This opportunity is good for all parties involved, as everybody gets something out of it. From the students’ point of view, those who’ve been working with us now know how to deal with a client and how to raise an invoice. These students have gained skills which are an excellent starting point to launch their own careers.”
Ravensbourne is proud to proactively assist current students and alumni in finding employment opportunities. Companies interested in promoting their job opportunities to students can do so through Ravensbourne Agency, our official jobs portal.
