Photography exhibition Continuum features the work of Julian Hawkins, Associate Senior Lecturer in BA Digital Photography at Ravensbourne.
Continuum brings together the projects of 15 photographers from around the world, working to redefine the future of visual storytelling. All of its’ exhibitors are recent graduates of the online course MA Photojournalism & Documentary Photography from London College of Communication (LCC), University of the Arts London.
“This Continuum pushes against the expected limits of contemporary documentary photography, inviting us to think on, look back, and begin afresh”. Max Houghton, exhibition curator and Senior Lecturer in Photography at LCC.
Continuum features photographs taken at a range of locations such as memorial grounds, family homes and public transport. Through these images authors explore their subjects’ most intimate encounters with the self, the relationship between the past and the present and the continuum of war and peace.
Julian Hawkins’ project is titled ‘(On this road) I feel like a ghost’ and shares with the audience secretive images of Birmingham. Julian explores the city’s suburbs, their hidden spots and the undefinable nature of the unseen, which he says in one of his poems ‘glows, shimmers, is fluid like quicksilver’.
The following Ravensbourne students and staff contributed to Julian’s project:
Celine Marchbank - book designer
Richard Michalec - video editor
Alfie Ealham - music editor
Carlos Zaghis & Fionn Lucas - sound mixing
The exhibition runs from 15 - 21 May (Mon - Fri 10am - 5pm | Sat 11am - 4pm)
Venue: London College of Communication, Elephant & Castle, London SE1 6SB
