Ravensbourne has undertaken its first collaboration with Leica, the prestigious German manufacturer of precision rangefinder cameras, much sought after by photojournalists for their compact nature, reliability and robust build.
For a number of years there has been a growing demand for photojournalism, documentary and street photography amongst course applicants at Ravensbourne. Robin Sinha, from Leica, was also seeking ways to have access to the next generation of photographers; a partnership between Leica and Ravensbourne seemed a logical next step.
Laura Pannack, the leading contemporary photojournalist, heads the project. Laura's passion for her work and dedication as a teacher are an inspiration to our students matching her with the dedication of the Leica Akademie team made for a perfect synergy.
Students drawn from all three years of the digital photography course were able to experience the Leica M type 240 providing for an exciting end to their academic year. As an industry/education partnership, this workshop has certainly been a resounding success and is something that both the course and Leica are very keen to build on and take further.

About Leica Street Photographer: Leica Street Photographer is a creative workshop designed for those who wish to sharpen their photographic skills and capture the 'decisive moment' in the streets of London. Before heading to Soho with a digital Leica M, participants are invited to meet at Leica's creative hub, the Café Optik, for an introduction to iconic Leica imagery, a brief history of the brand and advice that can inspire and encourage budding street photographers. Images will be reviewed and critiqued over lunch in a Soho café. Participants will also receive expert advice on taking and editing photos, understanding light and the elements of image composition. Upon the group's return to the Leica Akademie, an Adobe® Lightroom® specialist will demonstrate how to get the most from Lightroom® to make images really stand out.
