Welcome to a new era of Design
IBM recently embarked on a major initiative to revolutionise the way they think about, design. Quite simply their goal – on a scale unmatched in the industry – is to modernise complex enterprise software for today’s users who demand great design everywhere.
The approach is called 'IBM Design Thinking'. Hiring hundreds of Designers and Computer Scientists to help lead this change and move into the first phase of a 50,000 square foot studio at the IBM campus based in Austin, Texas which is now expanding globally to the UK, Ireland and China.
Phil Gilbert (@philgilbertsr) is General Manager of IBM Design. This division was formed in 2012 and is focused on three things: recruiting & retaining top talented designers, scaling a consistent practice of great design, and simplifying access to IBM’s broad portfolio of capabilities. IBM Design works across IBM Software, Systems, and Services. Previously, Phil led the Business Process Management segment for IBM, where he drove the simplification of its portfolio and the ease-of-use of its products. Phil joined IBM in 2010 via the acquisition of Lombardi Software where he was President. Phil graduated as a Pe-et (top ten) senior from the University of Oklahoma in 1978 and lives in Austin, Texas.
