Professor Lawrence Zeegen 

Dean of the School of Design

Professor Lawrence Zeegen is Dean of the School of Design at Ravensbourne where he leads undergraduate and postgraduate courses and research in Communication and Product Design, Architecture and Fashion.

Lawrence has lectured at conferences and institutions and acted as a design education consultant nationally and internationally – across 20+ countries, at last count. Having practiced as an illustrator since graduation with BA (Hons) in Graphic Arts (1st class) from Camberwell College of Arts in 1986 and MA Illustration from the Royal College of Art in 1989; Lawrence’s clients include major international newspapers, magazines, book publishers, design companies and advertising agencies. Lawrence was a regular contributing illustrator for The Guardian newspaper between 2005 and 2010.

Lawrence was a founding partner of London-based illustration studio Big Orange, was a founding director of Heart – one of the UK’s foremost contemporary illustration agencies, then launching AgencyRush before departing to take a more active role in design education.

As a design writer, Lawrence has contributed to numerous publications and blogs including Computer Arts, Computer Arts Projects, Creative Review, Digital Creative Arts, Grafik, It’s Nice That, MacFormat and Varoom. The author of nine published books on the subject of illustration and graphic arts since 2005 and a contributor to many more, Zeegen's latest books, Fifty Years of Illustration (Laurence King) was published in 2014 and Ladybird by Design (Penguin) in 2015.

Lawrence is a trustee of D&AD, a Trustee of the De Le Warr Pavilion and a member of the Design Council Sounding Board. In 2011 Lawrence was appointed to the Executive Board of ico-D (icograda) - the International Council of Design and reappointed in 2013.

Louise Prideaux

Louise Prideaux BA(Hons) PGCE MISTD

Associate Dean | Quality and Student Experience: School of Design

Louise Prideaux is the Associate Dean for the Design Practice Department. After graduating from Norwich School of Art with a first class degree, she started working as a graphic designer in the late eighties. Specialising in print, branding and typography her clients included IBM, BMW, Nomura, DHL.

She also has over 20 years of teaching experience, and came to Ravensbourne in 2008, as senior lecturer Graphic Design.

In 2011 she became course leader and initiated a student buddy system in the new open plan building to encourage collaboration and study support. Her students have won industry prizes including D&AD New Blood yellow pencils, ISTD, RSA and ycn awards.

Since 2014 she has been an Associate Dean and has the additional overall institution responsibility for student experience. She initiated Ravensbourne Connect which enables students to work on cross course projects with industry support.

Her role also includes working closely with the student union and the preparation for industry and student services departments. She also sits on numerous committees and panels in Ravensbourne, and is currently a staff governor.

Her academic interests include student motivation and creative confidence, enabling collaboration and methods to support this, with an emphasis on innovative pedagogical approaches.
