Where do I register and collect my gown?
This year, the event will be taking place at the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) in Greenwich. Details of how and when to register and also where to collect your gown will be confirmed soon.
Is there parking available?
Parking is available but is limited. For parking options and any queries regarding disabled parking, please visit The ORNC website.
Please visit The ORNC getting here web page information on travelling to the venue. We advise that you regularly check the Transport for London website for updates on travel issues.
When should I arrive?
Registration and gown collection will close 45 minutes before the ceremony starts. To allow enough time to collect your tickets and gown we suggest you arrive at least one and a half hours before your ceremony is due to start.
It is likely that there will be some extra security at the ORNC so please do arrive early.
Do I need to bring ID?
As well as bringing your ticket or confirmation email, graduands should also bring a valid photographic ID (passport/driving licence).
What happens if I get there late?
If you arrive late or sit in the wrong seat we cannot guarantee that you will be admitted into the Chapel and/or can go up on stage with the other graduates from your course to ‘receive’ your degree. If the 'presentation of awards' part of your ceremony has finished, you will not be able to go up on stage.
How long does the ceremony last?
Approximately between one and a half to two hours, but times do vary.
Where will I and my guests be seated?
Graduands and their guests will not be seated together. Graduands will be seated in the front stalls. Upon registration at the venue graduands will be issued with another ticket that will have your seat number on. Your guests will be seated behind the graduands and in the balconies. Ushers will show you to your seats.
Can I buy extra tickets?
Due to limited seating availability at the Old Royal Naval College, each graduand can only be guaranteed 2 additional guest tickets. If you wish to be put on a waiting list for additional guest tickets, please email your full name, course and email address to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that, unfortunately, we can by no means guarantee that additional tickets will be available for purchase on or nearer to the day. We also recommend that you keep checking the website as any updates on this will be published here.
What happens during the ceremony?
All guests and graduands are seated in the hall at the start of the ceremony.
Ushers will direct you from your seat out of the auditorium and onto the stage.
You will each have a name card that you must hand to the member of staff on the rostrum.
Graduands are presented individually by name and will progress alphabetically by last name within their course.
When your name is announced you walk to the centre of the stage to shake hands with the Director of Ravensbourne and other dignitaries.
You then cross to the exit at the far side of the stage and you will be ushered back to a seat in the hall, which might not be the same one you had before. For this reason you must leave your belongings with your guests.
Will my classification be read out?
No, and it will not be printed in the programme. The only exception will be for those graduands receiving firsts or distinctions.
What should my name card say?
Your name card should have your first name and last name printed on it. We will always call out your full legal name as we have it on our records. This will also be the name printed in the programme.
What happens after the ceremony?
After the ceremony itself, you will be directed out of the hall where light refreshments will be served. There is also an opportunity to have graduation photographs taken if you did not have the opportunity to have these taken prior to the ceremony. There is also the opportunity to meet with the Alumni and Employability Team to discuss progression opportunities. All gowning, photography and drink receptions will be taking place at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
Will I be sent any more information about my ceremony?
When you purchase your tickets online, you will receive an online ticket which you will need to print off and bring along to the Ceremony. All information regarding the ceremony should be provided in this FAQs list. If you have any further questions regarding your ceremony, please contact the Convocation team.
